Anthropic has made a major addition to its leadership team by hiring Sana Ouji, a seasoned energy and data center executive with over six years of experience at Google. This move comes as the San Francisco-based artificial intelligence company works to bolster its infrastructure capabilities during an ambitious global data center expansion.
Ouji's appointment marks a significant step in Anthropic's efforts to establish a specialized energy team. During her tenure at Google, Ouji focused on strategic investments and partnerships in data center energy. In a LinkedIn post, she revealed her decision to join Anthropic stemmed from her desire for a greater challenge. "After six and a half years at Google, I was seeking something new", Ouji wrote. She described recent changes in the energy and data center sector as "transformative", adding that being part of this shift within a leading AI company was "a genuine privilege."
Ouji joins Ariel Horowitz and Tim Hughes on Anthropic's newly formed energy team. Horowitz previously served as Deputy Director of Grid Modernization at the U.S. Department of Energy, while Hughes was Chief Development Officer at Stack Infrastructure.
The addition of Ouji continues a trend at Anthropic, which has seen a number of former Google employees join its ranks. Winnie Leung, Anthropic's Head of Data Center Infrastructure, and Brett Rogers, a leader in data center construction, both previously worked at Google. Other notable hires include Liwen Mao, Data Center Design Lead; Adam Johnson, Data Center Electrical Lead; and Peter Sarossy, who spent 20 years at Google before becoming a data center security engineering staff member at Anthropic. Zach Miller, now Data Center Operations Manager, brought 17 years of experience at Google, while Soheil Farshchian also transitioned from his role as a Data Center System Architecture Lead at the tech giant.
Anthropic's push to scale its infrastructure has included major financial commitments and partnerships. In October 2025, the company secured a deal with Google for over one gigawatt of cloud access, utilizing up to one million tensor processing units. This agreement expanded in April, with additional deals involving Broadcom and Google, bringing the total TPU capacity to 3.5 gigawatts.
Additionally, Anthropic has pledged to invest $50 billion in U.S. data centers through a partnership with Fluidstack, a project supported financially by Google. The company has emphasized that this partnership is expected to generate significant new capacity, although precise timelines and locations for construction remain under discussion.
Despite these large-scale investments, the path forward is not without challenges. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has acknowledged the risks involved, stating that inaccuracies in growth projections - even by as little as a year - could lead to severe financial repercussions, including bankruptcy. However, the formation of a dedicated energy team, combined with high-profile hires like Ouji, underscores the company's commitment to making infrastructure a core strategic priority.
As Anthropic continues its bold expansion, the addition of experienced talent like Ouji reflects its determination to navigate the complexities of scaling global infrastructure effectively.
