Aurora Core Technology to Build Data Center in Mikkeli, Finland

Aurora Core Technology, a Finnish subsidiary of the Chinese IT company 3 E Tech, is planning to establish a new data center in Mikkeli, Finland. The company has signed an agreement with the City of Mikkeli to construct the facility in Pellosniemi, an industrial area located south of the city. The data center will cover approximately 101,071 square meters (one million square feet).

Partnership to Drive Development

In addition to the agreement with the city, 3 E Tech has partnered with Finnish company Orka Technologies to develop the data center. The collaboration is based on a separate agreement finalized in December, and it is not the first time the two companies have worked together. They previously established a partnership in May for another Finnish data center project.

The planned facility will launch with an initial capacity of 6MW in its first year. Over time, it is expected to expand by a minimum of 10MW annually. The site is located near existing power infrastructure, which could potentially support a grid connection capacity of up to 50MW, according to the City of Mikkeli.

Strategic Expansion

While 3 E Tech is involved in diverse fields such as solar panel development and AI music generation, it remains unclear if the company has prior experience in data center construction. This project marks a significant step in the company’s expansion in Finland, a country where major data center operators such as Verne, Equinix, and atNorth already maintain facilities. The majority of existing data centers in Finland are located in the capital city, Helsinki.

At the same time, other new players, including Polarnode, FCDC, Arcem, and Hyperco, are also planning data center developments across Finland. International operators like QTS, Pure, and DayOne have similarly expressed interest in building facilities within the country.

This new development in Mikkeli highlights both the growing appeal of Finland’s data infrastructure sector and the increasing involvement of international stakeholders in the region’s technology landscape.
