Kio Networks, a leading Mexican data center operator, has officially begun construction of its new MEX8 facility in Mexico City. The new project is set to deliver 4MW of IT capacity, although the company has yet to announce a timeline for the facility's completion.
Founded in 2002, Kio Networks operates a total of 20 data centers across Mexico, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Colombia. Its 13 core facilities provide a combined IT capacity of 26MW. Within Mexico, the company maintains a strong presence with six active facilities in Mexico City, as well as others in Querétaro (two facilities), Monterrey (two facilities), Hermosillo, and Mérida.
Since 2021, Kio Networks has been owned by I Squared Capital, a private equity firm. Over the years, the company has made strategic adjustments to its portfolio. In 2017, Kio sold two of its U.S.-based facilities to Zayo, which are now operated by DataBank. More recently, Kio divested its Spanish operations in 2024.
The MEX8 facility marks an expansion of Kio’s footprint within Mexico City, underlining the company’s continued focus on meeting growing demands for data center capacity in the region. Details about specific features or innovations at the new site have not yet been disclosed.
This move underscores Kio Networks' commitment to strengthening its data infrastructure across key markets in Latin America and beyond as it adapts to evolving industry needs. Further updates on the progress of the MEX8 facility are expected in the coming months.
