How is a Construction Engineer different from a Project Engineer?

The Project Engineer runs the project’s paper: document control, RFI and submittal logs, meeting minutes, change orders, subcontractor coordination. The Construction Engineer owns the engineering inside the build: constructability, means and methods, temporary works, lift plans, and RFIs that carry a solution with calcs. On smaller projects one person wears both hats; on industrial and mission-critical builds they are separate seats, and the Construction Engineer often has a PE or EIT and reports to the project executive or a chief engineer.

How is a Construction Engineer different from a Field Engineer?

A Field Engineer is the boots seat — layout, quantities, daily field RFIs, supporting the Superintendent. The Construction Engineer sits a level up in engineering depth: designing the temporary works the Field Engineer lays out, engineering the lift the crew executes, and resolving the conflict the field RFI surfaced. Many strong Construction Engineers started as Field Engineers.

Do you require a PE license?

Not by default. A PE is required where the seat stamps temporary works, lift plans, or shoring designs, and we filter for it in the right state when that is the case. Otherwise, reference-verified authorship of constructability reviews, temporary works, and engineered RFIs outweighs the license, and many strong candidates are EIT-track engineers with 4–8 years on industrial builds. Can you recruit for cleared, defense, or launch-site builds?

Yes. Defense manufacturing, MILCON, and launch and test programs add badge-and-escort rules, energetics and cryogenic setbacks, and range-safety interface to means-and-methods engineering. We confirm clearance eligibility or active status during scoping and shortlist only candidates who can start on your timeline.
