Energy Vault starts AI campus construction in Snyder

By:
Dallas Bond

Energy Vault Inc. has begun construction on an artificial intelligence infrastructure campus in Snyder for Crusoe Cloud, launching a project that is expected to bring an initial 8 megawatts of modular data center capacity online in the first quarter of 2027.

The company said the first phase of the project, known as Snyder AI, is designed for expansion. After the initial buildout, Energy Vault said a second phase could increase capacity to 25 megawatts. It also described the broader site plan as a modular platform with planned expansion up to 500 megawatts.

Work now underway includes fiber installation, site preparation, and power-related infrastructure, according to the company.

Energy Vault said it is buying 10 Crusoe Spark modular data centers from Crusoe. Under the arrangement announced by the company, Crusoe will lease the units back from Energy Vault as "powered shell" infrastructure and use that capacity for Crusoe Cloud customers focused on AI model training, fine-tuning, and inference.

"This announcement is about speed and execution", Marco Terruzzin, Energy Vault’s chief commercial and development officer, said in a release. He said the initial 8-megawatt deployment is targeted for commercial operation in the first quarter of 2027.

Crusoe President and co-founder Cully Cavness said the project is intended to demonstrate a "repeatable and scalable model" for deploying modular computing capacity at sites with power available.

Energy Vault, based in California, markets utility-scale energy storage technologies and energy management software.
