Hitachi, Ltd. and Mission Critical Group said they have signed a memorandum of understanding to work together on data center solutions, as operators face rising demand tied to artificial intelligence and growing pressure to speed up deployment.
The partnership, announced September 16, 2026, is focused on joint development to expand Hitachi's HMAX Data Center portfolio and on cross-selling energy solutions and products. The companies said they will combine Hitachi's digital and energy capabilities with Mission Critical Group's modular power infrastructure business.
Demand for data centers is increasing worldwide, the companies said, driven by the rapid adoption of AI. They also said extended lead times for electrical equipment have become a major bottleneck in construction, helping fuel demand for modular data centers that standardize design, manufacturing, and testing in factory settings while cutting on-site construction and commissioning time. Hitachi said the market is growing at an annual rate of about 20%, based on its analysis of industry reports.
Mission Critical Group, or MCG, provides power distribution equipment and power modules for data centers, mainly in North America. Hitachi said it supplies power grids equipment, power distribution equipment, cooling systems, and AI infrastructure for data centers, and recently launched HMAX Data Center as part of its HMAX by Hitachi portfolio.
The companies outlined three main areas for the partnership.
First, they said they plan to deliver energy solutions spanning high-, medium-, and low-voltage systems. Hitachi and MCG said they will pursue cross-selling opportunities through their global customer bases and jointly develop modular data center projects. In power infrastructure, Hitachi Energy and MCG said they aim to offer end-to-end energy solutions for data center operators by combining their technologies, products, and solutions.
Second, the companies said they will work on expanding the HMAX Data Center portfolio by integrating Hitachi's digital technologies, including data collection and AI analytics, into MCG's modular power equipment. They said this is intended to allow immediate connection to digital services when equipment is deployed at data centers. Planned solution areas include equipment monitoring, AI-powered analytics, predictive maintenance, and optimization of energy management.
Third, they said Hitachi Group digital and automation offerings, including HMAX Industry, will be introduced across MCG's production facilities to improve manufacturing productivity and operational efficiency.
The companies said the collaboration is intended to accelerate data center deployment, enhance operational performance, address rapidly growing market demand, and expand their businesses.
