Interplay Learning has launched a national workforce effort aimed at one of the fastest-growing corners of the U.S. labor market: data centers. The new initiative, called America’s Mission Critical Workforce, brings together training, education and workforce organizations as demand rises for workers in installation, maintenance, operations and other trades tied to digital infrastructure.
The initiative’s founding members are Interplay Learning, Cengage, the New American Industrial Alliance and YouthBuild. According to the company, the group is intended to help address workforce shortages affecting both data center construction and the long-term operation and maintenance of facilities.
The launch comes as data center hiring continues to outpace the wider U.S. job market. A July 2026 analysis from Indeed Hiring Lab found that data center job postings had more than doubled over the past two years, even as overall U.S. job postings declined by approximately 12%.
Installation and maintenance roles account for roughly one-quarter of data center openings, underscoring demand for workers with hands-on technical abilities as well as traditional construction skills.
