
A significant milestone has been reached in advancing clean energy infrastructure in Texas, as Linea Energy has successfully secured financing for its Duffy battery energy storage project in Matagorda County. The project has received both debt financing and preferred equity funding from DESRI, enabling the development of a utility-scale battery system designed to support grid reliability within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT).
The Duffy battery energy storage project is set to deliver 235 MW / 470 MWh of capacity, providing a crucial function in storing electricity and balancing supply during peak demand periods. This system, operating at grid scale, is specifically designed to enhance grid reliability while supporting the ongoing integration of renewable energy sources across Texas.
Linea Energy, an independent power producer, focuses on the development, ownership, and operation of clean energy infrastructure. The company’s latest efforts underscore its commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions.
DESRI, a leading developer and operator of renewable energy projects, is contributing to the Duffy project through its preferred equity investment. With a portfolio exceeding 12 GW of solar, wind, and storage projects across the U.S., DESRI’s participation reinforces its role in enhancing the nation’s renewable energy capacity.
The financing for the Duffy project was facilitated with assistance from Orrick, a prominent legal advisory firm. Orrick’s team, led by Louise Gibbons, John Eliason, Devin Canavan, and Helen Aki, also included contributions from Nikiforos Mathews, Darrell Thomas, Chelsea Munoz-Patchen, Zachary D.T. Huey, Jason Warrington, Shah Mohammadi, Trudie Makens, Sarafina Joseph, and Ellie Rubinstein.
The completion of this financing marks a crucial step toward the construction of the Duffy battery storage system. Once operational, the project will play an integral role in storing excess electricity for use during high-demand periods, thereby improving energy reliability and facilitating the integration of renewable resources into the ERCOT grid.
