Hire HVAC Technicians

Hire HVAC Technicians who keep industrial and critical-facility cooling up hands-on — centrifugal and screw chillers, cooling towers, CRAH and CRAC units, AHUs and makeup-air, VFDs and starters, refrigerant recovery and charging under EPA 608, BMS alarm response, and PM rounds on a rotating shift. Level 1 through Level 5 technicians with reference-verified repair history on the equipment your site actually runs, not a residential split-system resume relabeled industrial.

How It Works

Hire HVAC Technicians in 3 steps

A structured process for the hire who stands between a chiller trip and a production loss — where a technician who has never pulled a compressor or read a BMS trend means the CRAH alarm at 3 a.m. becomes a contractor call, a cleanroom loses pressure, and a dry room drifts out of dew-point spec before day shift arrives.

Step 01

Talk to our team

30-minute call. Align on equipment list and tonnage, chilled-water versus DX mix, refrigerants on site, BMS platform, CMMS, technician level and crew structure, shift rotation and on-call, licensing needs, and start date.

Step 02

Review hand-selected talent

Within 2 weeks we introduce 3–5 HVAC Technicians with verified repair and PM history on comparable industrial or critical-facility equipment — not commercial-office service techs restyled. References from HVAC supervisors and chief engineers included.

Step 03

Hire with confidence

Every placement carries a replacement guarantee. If the hire fails within the warranty window, we run a no-fee replacement search.

Why iRecruit.co for HVAC Technician Hires

What makes our HVAC Technician shortlist different

An industrial HVAC Technician is judged on what happens when a chiller trips, a CRAH loses a fan, or a cleanroom pressure cascade inverts. Equipment-level repair history, refrigerant discipline, and the ability to read a BMS trend before touching a valve separate a technician who carries a shift from one who waits for the factory rep.

01

Equipment-level repair history

Every HVAC Technician has reference-verified hands-on repair and PM history on the equipment class your site runs — Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin centrifugal and screw chillers; Vertiv, Stulz and Schneider CRAH/CRAC; custom AHUs and makeup-air; cooling towers and plate-and-frame exchangers. We confirm scope with the supervisor who assigned the work, not the resume.

02

Refrigerant and electrical discipline

EPA 608 Universal verified, plus recovery, evacuation, leak-check and charging history on R-134a, R-513A, R-410A, R-1234ze and R-454B systems. Verified troubleshooting on 480V motors, VFDs and starters with lockout/tagout execution and NFPA 70E qualified-person status where the seat requires it.

03

BMS and CMMS fluency

Reference-verified ability to read trends, alarms and setpoints in Niagara, Metasys, Desigo, WebCTRL, EcoStruxure or Siemens Apogee, and to close PMs honestly in Maximo, eMaint, Fiix or comparable — the difference between a technician who diagnoses and one who resets.

HVAC Technician Specializations

Match the HVAC Technician specialty to your site

“HVAC Technician” covers everything from a Level 1 rounds tech to a Lead who runs chiller changeovers, and the right hire depends on which equipment your site cannot afford to have waiting on a service contract. Below are the specializations we recruit for:

What we verify on every HVAC Technician candidate

HVAC Technician hires live and die on real repair history on your equipment class, refrigerant and electrical discipline, and the judgment to read a trend before turning a valve. Below is what every candidate has documented before you meet them:

Equipment repair history

Reference-verified hands-on repair and PM work on chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC, AHUs, makeup-air and exhaust systems of the class and tonnage your site runs — confirmed with the supervisor who assigned it.

Refrigerant handling

EPA 608 Universal verified, plus documented recovery, evacuation, leak-check and charging history on the refrigerants in service at your site, including low-GWP transitions such as R-513A and R-454B.

Electrical and LOTO competence

Verified troubleshooting on 480V three-phase motors, VFDs, starters and control circuits, lockout/tagout execution, and NFPA 70E qualified-person status where the seat requires it.

BMS, CMMS and shift reliability

Verified ability to read trends and alarms in Niagara, Metasys, Desigo, WebCTRL or comparable; honest PM close-out in Maximo, eMaint or Fiix; and reference-checked reliability on rotating shifts, on-call, and MOP or EOP execution in live critical environments.

Credentials verified

EPA 608, OSHA 10 / 30, NFPA 70E, state HVAC or mechanical licenses where required, manufacturer chiller training, NATE, boiler licenses, forklift and aerial-lift cards, and cleanroom or hazardous-gas training where claimed — all checked.

Compensation alignment

Level 1 through Level 5 and Lead comp bands aligned before finalists are introduced, including shift differential, overtime expectations, on-call pay, and tool or license stipends.

FAQ

Hiring an HVAC Technician: frequently asked questions

How long does it take to hire an HVAC Technician?

Time to shortlist is typically 2 weeks from scoping call. Total time to placement (shortlist through offer acceptance) is typically 3–4 weeks. Level 4 and 5 seats with chiller-rebuild or live data center MOP experience, and multi-hire shift builds, can run a week longer.

What does an HVAC Technician cost in 2026?

Most US industrial and critical-facility HVAC Technicians at Level 1 to 3 land between $58K and $85K base depending on metro, equipment scope, and shift pattern. Level 4, Level 5 and Lead Technicians with chiller, CRAH and BMS depth on data center, fab or gigafactory programs typically run $85K–$115K before shift differential and overtime. These are market bands; we confirm live market bands during scoping.

What do HVAC Technician levels 1 through 5 mean?

Level 1 and 2 run rounds, filter and belt PMs, and assist on repairs under supervision. Level 3 diagnoses and repairs AHUs, pumps and DX systems independently. Level 4 handles chillers, VFD replacement and refrigerant work solo and reads BMS trends to diagnose. Level 5 or Lead runs changeovers and MOPs, trains the crew, and covers the supervisor. Titles vary by site, so we scope by the work rather than the number.

How is an HVAC Technician different from a Facilities Technician?

A Facilities Technician covers multiple crafts — HVAC, electrical, plumbing, compressed air — on one shift. The HVAC Technician goes deeper on one system: chillers, CRAH/CRAC, AHUs, refrigerant, controls. Sites with large mechanical plants, cleanrooms or dry rooms usually need the dedicated HVAC seat; smaller campuses often run multi-craft.

How is an HVAC Technician different from an HVAC Engineer?

The HVAC Engineer designs and specifies the systems — load calcs, chilled-water and airside design, sequences of operations, commissioning support. The HVAC Technician operates, maintains and repairs them hands-on. If the seat spends its day with gauges, a meter and a CMMS tablet, it is a technician role.

Do you require EPA 608 or a state license?

EPA 608 is a baseline for any technician who touches refrigerant, and we verify it. State HVAC or mechanical licensing matters where your jurisdiction or site requires it; otherwise reference-verified equipment history and NFPA 70E qualification carry more weight. We confirm the licensing profile during scoping and verify every credential claimed.

Do you offer a placement guarantee?

Yes. Every HVAC Technician placement carries a replacement guarantee. Guarantee terms are confirmed in writing at engagement start.

Can you staff a full mechanical crew or shift rotation?

Yes. Multi-hire builds (an HVAC Supervisor plus technicians across three or four shifts, or a full mechanical crew for a new data center, fab or gigafactory ahead of move-in) route through embedded recruiting or RPO.
