Bethesda-based Centrus Energy Corp. raised $99.82 million through a secondary public offering in September, adding to the investment flowing into Montgomery County, Maryland’s clean energy sector.
The company supplies nuclear fuel and services to the nuclear power industry and employs over 460 people. Its capital raise comes as the United States explores ways to meet rising electricity demand and strengthen its energy supply chain, highlighting the importance of nuclear energy and domestic fuel capabilities.
Centrus’ offering follows another major fundraising event for a local nuclear energy company. Rockville-based X-energy completed an IPO in April that raised more than $1 billion. The company develops small modular nuclear reactors and specialized fuel designed to deliver reliable, low-carbon energy.
With over 1,000 employees, X-energy has also expanded its Montgomery County presence, adding approximately 24,000 square feet to its Gaithersburg headquarters.
Investment in the County’s clean energy economy extends beyond nuclear power. Rockville-based Liatris is developing high-performance insulation materials to improve energy efficiency in buildings. Rockville-based Chaberton Energy develops sustainable infrastructure and renewable energy projects and earned a place on the 2025 Inc. 5000 listing of America’s fastest-growing private companies.
Together, these companies address different parts of the energy challenge, from nuclear fuel and power generation to building efficiency and renewable energy infrastructure. Centrus’ September offering adds to the significant capital raised by companies in Montgomery County’s expanding clean energy sector.
