CivilGrid raises $26 million in Series A funding

CivilGrid has raised $26 million in Series A financing as it looks to expand its infrastructure planning platform nationally, betting that utilities and engineering firms will continue to invest in tools that help reduce delays, construction conflicts and project costs.

Spark Capital led the round, with participation from Energy Impact Partners, Afore Capital, A*, Ford Street Ventures and SNR Ventures. CivilGrid said the new funding will support national expansion and additional product development.

The company’s platform is built to address a recurring challenge in infrastructure development: key information about project sites is often scattered across separate databases, PDFs and agency systems. CivilGrid combines subsurface, regulatory and other site information in a collaborative geospatial environment used by utilities, engineers, construction teams and infrastructure owners.

CivilGrid said it brings thousands of datasets sourced directly from government agencies into a single collaborative map so stakeholders can assess project constraints before construction starts. The company cited approximately 200,000 utility strikes annually in the U.S. and said delays, rework and emergency responses tied to those incidents cost the industry roughly $30 billion per year.

PG&E has reported results from using the platform. According to the company, the utility eliminated more than $60 million in paving conflicts through portfolio optimization, reduced field research and survey activity by 40% and sped up project scoping, planning and design timelines by as much as four months.

CivilGrid also said its platform can cut due diligence time by as much as 85% and potentially free up 5% to 10% of project budgets by reducing field surprises, emergency relocations and redesign work.

"Teams are building with incomplete site data and disconnected workflows that slow projects, increase costs, and create avoidable risks. CivilGrid gives cross-functional teams at PG&E and other leading utilities the confidence they need to plan effectively, reduce risk, and deliver projects affordably."

Josh Mackanic, CEO And Co-Founder Of CivilGrid

"That means planning smarter from the start with tools like CivilGrid, which help our teams identify risks earlier, build more efficiently, and avoid unnecessary costs while keeping safety front and center."

CivilGrid said the market opportunity for its platform spans electric grid modernization, AI data centers, defense infrastructure, broadband, housing, water and transportation. The company estimates it operates within a roughly $2.2 trillion U.S. construction market.
