CivilGrid raises $26 million Series A for infrastructure platform

CivilGrid has raised a $26 million Series A round as it looks to expand a platform built to bring fragmented site, subsurface, and regulatory data into one planning environment for infrastructure projects.

The San Francisco company said the financing was led by Spark Capital, with participation from Energy Impact Partners, Afore Capital, A*, Ford Street Ventures, and SNR Ventures. CivilGrid said the funding will support national expansion and further product development as utilities, engineering firms, and other infrastructure owners manage large project pipelines.

The company’s platform is designed to give project teams a consolidated view of underground assets and site conditions, an area CivilGrid said has long been handled through disconnected systems. According to the company, builders have often relied on phone calls, PDFs, and separate bureaucratic processes to gather information on utility assets, municipal projects, environmental regulations, and land ownership before breaking ground.

That challenge comes as the U.S. faces a major infrastructure push. CivilGrid cited experts calling for over $3.7 trillion in investment and said legacy data and older systems contribute to 200,000 utility strikes annually in the U.S. The company said those incidents can lead to disruptions ranging from water service cuts to ruptured natural gas lines and cost the industry $30 billion annually in delays, rework, and emergency response.

CivilGrid said major utilities and engineering firms including Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), Atmos Energy, Mark Thomas, and GHD use its software to help manage project risk and spending. The company said the platform allows asset owners, engineers, construction teams, municipalities, and regulatory bodies to work from a shared map that combines thousands of datasets sourced directly from agencies.

PG&E highlighted the platform’s role as energy demand rises in California.

"California’s energy needs are growing rapidly, and our customers expect us to deliver the infrastructure they need safely, reliably, and affordably", said Christine Cowsert, Senior Vice President of Enterprise Business and Technology Modernization at PG&E. "That means planning smarter from the start with tools like CivilGrid, which help our teams identify risks earlier, build more efficiently, and avoid unnecessary costs while keeping safety front and center."

Since deploying CivilGrid, PG&E has realized savings and schedule gains, according to the company. Those results include $60M+ in paving conflicts eliminated through strategic portfolio optimization, a 40% reduction in field research and survey activities, and project scoping, planning, and design timelines that are up to 4 months faster.

CivilGrid said its software can improve affordability by reducing costly field surprises, emergency utility relocations, and redesign cycles that can free up 5-10% of project budgets. It also said the platform can cut due diligence time by up to 85%, improve field crew awareness, and help agencies and project teams identify conflicts earlier.

Spark Capital said it views the company as part of a broader effort to improve execution across large physical infrastructure projects.

CivilGrid said the platform is intended to help teams prioritize projects, shorten due diligence, reduce field surprises, and coordinate capital deployment more confidently as utilities harden grids, cities expand electrical capacity, telecoms work to close the broadband gap, and agencies modernize water and transit systems.
