DataBank has filed plans for a 200MW data center campus in Cartersville, adding another large proposed development to Georgia’s expanding data center pipeline.
The US operator submitted a Development of Regional Impact application with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for the project, known as Project Indo. The proposed campus would be built on 69 acres at 218 Industrial Park Road in Cartersville, a city in Bartow County about 42 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.
According to the filing, DataBank plans to develop a campus totaling 1.1 million sq ft (102,193 sqm). The first phase could launch in 2032.
At full build-out, the project could be valued at $2.4 billion. DataBank has also filed for a 288MW utility grid connection. The site is currently owned by Colloid Environmental Technologies Company (CETCO), a construction materials firm, and the existing manufacturing site is close to a substation.
The proposed Cartersville development would become DataBank’s largest site in the Atlanta area and its furthest from downtown. The company’s existing footprint around Atlanta totals 177MW across six facilities and 751,270 sq ft.
Founded in 2005, DataBank operates more than 65 data centers across the US in 25 metro markets.
The filing comes as Atlanta and nearby areas continue to see a rise in data center proposals. The source article said the region has "traditionally been a Tier 2 market", but that increased demand has led to a surge in projects. It also noted that Development of Regional Impact applications for more than a dozen campuses, totaling tens of millions of square feet across dozens of buildings, have been filed over the last couple of years, with proposals both in Fulton County and elsewhere across Georgia.
