Greenvolt Group has started construction of the Siedlce battery energy storage system in Poland, a 600 MW/2.4 GWh project the company says will be the country’s largest BESS facility and one of the largest in Europe.
The project is being developed through Greenvolt Power, the group’s utility scale renewable energy business. Commercial operation is scheduled to begin by the end of 2027.
Siedlce adds to Greenvolt’s battery storage pipeline, which the company said stands at a probability-weighted approximately 4.6 GW. Of that total, around 2.4 GW is in Poland. The company said battery storage is taking on a larger role in its growth strategy, covering both utility scale projects and behind-the-meter solutions for commercial and industrial customers in several European markets through Greenvolt Next.

According to the company, the facility will store electricity during periods of high renewable generation and release it when demand rises, adding flexibility to the Polish power system. Greenvolt said this will support the integration of wind and solar generation and help balance electricity supply and demand.
The Siedlce project follows two other battery storage developments by Greenvolt Power in Poland. Turosn Koscielna, with 200 MW/800 MWh, entered operation in July 2026. Elk, also 200 MW/800 MWh, is expected to reach commercial operation in 4Q26. Once all three projects are operating, they will provide a combined 1 GW of power and 4 GWh of storage capacity.
Weronika Nowak, CEO of Greenvolt Power, added: "We are now moving Siedlce into construction, with the battery supply and grid connection agreements in place. The experience we have gained from Turosn Koscielna and Elk gives us a strong basis for delivering a project of this scale, and our priority is to keep that momentum and bring Siedlce into operation by the end of 2027."
BYD Energy Storage will supply the battery technology for Siedlce. The project design includes 210 battery containers and 105 transformer containers equipped with power conversion systems to enable electricity to flow between the batteries and the grid.
Greenvolt Power is also working with engineering and construction company P&Q and renewable energy contractor and developer ONDE on the project’s electrical infrastructure.
