Hitachi Energy will invest $528 million to expand its operations in Copiah County, a project that state officials said will create 654 jobs and mark the company’s largest investment in the U.S. to date.
Governor Tate Reeves and the Mississippi Development Authority announced the project Tuesday. Reeves made the announcement from the G20 energy summit in Houston, Texas, alongside Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin and other federal energy leaders.
The expansion centers on Hitachi Energy’s transformer manufacturing presence in Copiah County, where the company’s current facility produces small power transformers and employs 475 people. According to MDA, the new investment will significantly boost production capacity and broaden the range of small power transformers manufactured domestically.

"Hitachi Energy could’ve made its largest investment in America anywhere in the country – but the company chose Mississippi", the governor said. "Mississippi’s momentum is growing stronger every day, and it is our people who are building the future of American energy infrastructure."
Reeves added that Mississippi is proud to play a leading role in powering America’s future.
The project includes the purchase of a 45-acre site at the Copiah County Industrial Park in Gallman, construction of a new facility, new manufacturing equipment and infrastructure improvements. Construction is expected to begin later this year, and transformer production is scheduled to start in 2029.
MDA said the project will help meet growing demand across North America while strengthening the domestic supply chain for critical energy infrastructure.
Hitachi Energy, incorporated in June 2021, traces its founding back more than a century through predecessor companies ABB and parent company Hitachi Ltd. The company manufactures transformers and other equipment used to power homes, businesses and communities.
Andreas Schierenbeck, CEO, Hitachi Energy, said the investment comes as electricity demand rises and grid infrastructure needs to expand.

The company is using the Mississippi Flexible Tax Incentive, or MFLEX, program, while MDA is assisting with site development and infrastructure improvements. Copiah County also is assisting with the project.

"At $528 million, Hitachi Energy’s expansion is a massive addition to the investment taking place in Mississippi and puts Copiah County at the center of an industry that is increasingly critical to economic development.
