Kahua has secured a minority growth investment from Bain Capital’s Tech Opportunities business at a valuation above $1 billion, with plans to expand its artificial intelligence capabilities and strengthen the teams supporting its construction technology platform.
The investment amount was not disclosed. The deal comes as Kahua reaches $100 million in annualized revenue, serving more than 2,500 customers and supporting more than $400 billion in capital programs.
"We’ve spent years building Kahua into the system organizations rely on to run their most complex programs, and this investment validates that work", said Scott Unger, CEO and co-founder of Kahua. "Reaching $100 million in annualized revenue is a milestone of which we are incredibly proud."
Kahua plans to direct the new capital toward product development and AI initiatives, as well as its go-to-market organization, customer success capabilities and talent development. Unger said the partnership would help the company increase those investments while expanding resources for customers and employees.
Kahua provides an AI-powered enterprise construction platform for organizations overseeing large, multiyear capital programs. Its customers operate in sectors including federal government and defense, transportation, healthcare and education. The company also sees growing demand associated with investment in energy, digital infrastructure and data centers.
These programs can involve many stakeholders, lengthy development timelines and information spread across separate software systems and business processes. Kahua’s platform brings participants, workflows and data into a single governed environment, covering funding and planning, construction and ongoing operations.
The company seeks to reduce that fragmentation through a configurable system of record that gives organizations visibility across their capital program portfolios. Industry-specific applications allow customers to adapt workflows to their existing operating processes.
That data infrastructure also underpins Kahua’s AI strategy. Rather than keeping AI tools separate from project information, the company aims to use governed data and context to incorporate AI into planning, management and decision-making.
"Kahua has built the technology backbone for owners and delivery teams, connecting critical data across the full asset lifecycle - from funding and planning through construction and long-term operation", said Philip Meicler, partner at Bain Capital Tech Opportunities.
Meicler said Bain Capital would work with Kahua’s management as the company expands its platform and enters additional markets. Bain Capital Tech Opportunities invests in growing technology businesses and will contribute its experience scaling software companies.
With Bain Capital as a minority investor, Kahua plans to expand across its existing markets while further integrating AI and developing its core construction and capital program management capabilities.
