Microsoft’s revised plans for its Mount Pleasant data center campus call for fewer data center buildings but a larger footprint: 5,878,080 square-feet, roughly 400,000-square feet more than originally planned.
Plans submitted to the village Plan Commission replace the previous proposal for nine data centers with seven one-story data center buildings, one storage building and two utility substations.
The Plan Commission is scheduled to consider the proposal Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 1 p.m. at Village Hall. Village staff recommends approval, and the proposal could then go to the full Village Board.
In a statement, a Microsoft spokesman said: "We continue to refine the design and layout of our expansion parcels in the Village of Mount Pleasant. The changes in no way reflect a reduction in our ambition, they have been made to ensure faster development, allowing us to access this increased capacity quicker. We will continue to evolve our design and keep the community updated prior to beginning any vertical construction."
The revised plans lower estimated taxable value per acre by roughly $2.3 million, bringing it to $7.7 million. Village officials say the property’s value could exceed that estimate once it is fully assessed.
Microsoft became Racine County’s largest taxpayer in 2026, surpassing Foxconn Technology Group. It paid roughly $19.75 million on $1.224 billion of assessed property value.
Foxconn is also modifying its Mount Pleasant facilities. Village officials recently approved its plan to add 26 new docks and make other updates. As part of that upgrade, Foxconn plans to add roughly 700 jobs at the facility.
Microsoft has finished its first data center in the village and is building a second beside it. Mount Pleasant has approved up to 15 data centers on the property, but how many Microsoft will ultimately build remains unclear.
