Sabey Data Centers has started vertical construction on its 120MW SDC Umatilla campus in Oregon, moving the project into a new phase at the site near the Washington border.

The company said this week it was "going vertical" at the campus in Umatilla. The project is planned across 60 acres on Beach Access Road that Sabey acquired in 2023 and is designed to include two buildings. The first 12MW of capacity is expected to come online by 2027.

Tim Mirick, president of Sabey Data Centers, described the milestone as the point where early planning becomes visible. He said that seeing the first steel rise transforms years of planning and engineering into a tangible structure. He also affirmed the company's commitment to the community and to serving customers in the region for many years.

Capacity and design

The SDC Umatilla campus is planned for a total capacity of 120MW, making it a major digital infrastructure project in the region, according to the company’s announcement.

A closed-loop cooling system is part of the design. State Representative Bobby Levy said the construction represents an exciting investment in Northeast Oregon, providing essential connectivity for hospitals, schools, and small businesses while creating new economic opportunities. She added that the cooling system demonstrates how innovation and responsible resource stewardship can coexist.

Investment backing

National Real Estate Advisors is involved in the investment for the project. TJ Hofheimer, managing director, portfolio & asset management at National Real Estate Advisors, said the investment aligns with their focus on strong fundamentals, experienced teams, and long-term value creation. He also acknowledged the collaboration among Sabey, local leaders, and community stakeholders in advancing the project to its current stage.
