Submer Debuts Rubix Data Centers with an 8GW Portfolio Announcement

Immersion cooling specialist Submer has unveiled Rubix Data Centers, a new platform aimed at revolutionizing the development and operation of AI-focused data centers. The company claims Rubix has access to an extensive 8GW portfolio of powered land spread across the Americas, EMEA, and APAC regions. However, specific locations or development timelines for these sites have not yet been disclosed.

Rubix will be led by former Stack Infrastructure executive John Eland, who brings extensive industry experience to the role. Eland, previously CEO of Stack’s EMEA business, "transitioned out of the company" in August 2025. Joining him in spearheading the new venture is Alison Gutman, another former senior executive from Stack. The company’s backing comes from prominent investors, including M&G Investments, Planet First Partners, Norrsken VC, and Mundi Ventures.

"AI infrastructure requires a fundamentally different approach to data center development and delivery; I am thrilled to welcome John and Alison, whose industry experience sets us up for success", said Patrick Smets, CEO of Submer.

A Strategic Expansion Beyond Cooling

For Submer, which is headquartered in Barcelona, Rubix marks a continued diversification from its core focus on immersion cooling technologies. This initiative follows the firm’s launch of an AI cloud business, InferX, last year, signaling its broadening role in the AI and data center space.

Eland, now the CEO of Rubix Data Centers, expressed his enthusiasm about the venture’s potential to meet the demands of AI-driven workloads. "Thanks to its long-standing reputation for excellence in sustainable cooling for ultra-high-density workloads and its neocloud business InferX, Submer has close relationships with GPU manufacturers as well as the hyperscale end users of GPU as-a-Service. This gives Rubix early line of sight into AI demand workloads", he said.

"I am excited to launch Rubix and grow our global business to enable our clients to scale AI and cloud deployments with speed, efficiency, consistency, and sustainability", Eland added.

Building a Comprehensive AI Infrastructure

Rubix’s creation is part of Submer’s broader strategy to position itself as a full-stack AI infrastructure provider. According to Smets, the company is evolving to encompass a wide range of capabilities, including land and power management, manufacturing, thermal solutions, product architecture, and compute infrastructure for both core data centers and edge environments.

"As Submer evolves into a fully integrated, full-stack AI infrastructure group spanning land and power, manufacturing, thermal and product architecture, AI intelligence, compute across core data centers and edge environments – and now, data center development and operations with Rubix – we’re creating a future-ready foundation built for performance, efficiency, and global scale", Smets elaborated.

While details on project timelines and specific developments remain under wraps, the launch of Rubix signals a significant step forward for Submer as it expands its role in the rapidly growing world of AI infrastructure.
