Wood has secured a $200 million, five-year construction services contract from ExxonMobil PNG (EMPNG) to support existing facilities across the PNG LNG Project in Papua New Guinea (PNG).
The work will span the Hides Gas Conditioning Plant, the LNG plant at Caution Bay, approximately 700-kilometres of pipeline network, and associated well pads and flowlines. The brownfield projects will support the safe, reliable and efficient operation of infrastructure supplying LNG to customers across Asia.
More than 200 Wood personnel in PNG will deliver project management, civil and structural construction, piping and mechanical works, and electrical and instrumentation services. Their scope also includes scaffolding, lifting, rigging and other support services.
The award extends Wood’s work with ExxonMobil PNG, which has operated the PNG LNG Project for more than a decade.
Steve Nicol, Chief Operating Officer of Operations at Wood, said: "For more than a decade, we’ve supported ExxonMobil PNG to deliver safe and reliable PNG LNG Project operations.
"By providing quality construction services, we will play an important role in maintaining and enhancing critical facilities that underpin the PNG LNG Project’s infrastructure. Our teams are laser focused on sustaining asset integrity, applying decades of experience to ensure they continue to run reliably and safely."
"We are committed to the country’s economic development by working closely with our clients, supply chain partners and communities, with a continued focus on sustaining a skilled national workforce for the future."
The PNG LNG Project is the largest investment in the nation’s history and its first in LNG. Production started in April 2014, months ahead of schedule, and EMPNG has since supplied four major, long-term customers in Asia.
Operations have capacity to produce more than 8.3 million tonnes of LNG, an increase of 20% from the original design specification. Estimated natural gas production over the Project’s life is 11 trillion cubic feet.
Wood has provided engineering, procurement, construction and operational services in PNG since 2013. Globally, it has worked with ExxonMobil affiliates for more than 85 years.
The company’s local workforce development includes internationally accredited training, mentoring and on-the-job experience. Wood also works closely with PNG Landowner Companies (LANCOs) as it expands its supplier network.
The new contract continues that presence, with Wood’s personnel supporting construction work across the facilities and infrastructure underpinning PNG LNG operations.
