Hire NDT Inspectors

Hire NDT Inspectors and Technicians — Level II and Level III in UT, PT, MT, RT, ET and CT — who inspect flight hardware, launch-vehicle tanks, ship structures and defense assemblies to the procedure, not the habit. Direct-hire nondestructive testing staff for aerospace, launch, shipyard and defense manufacturing, verified through NAS 410 and SNT-TC-1A certification records, procedure authorship, Level III oversight and NADCAP audit history with the quality leaders who signed the certs.

How It Works

Hire NDT Inspectors in 3 steps

A structured process for the hire who decides whether a weld, a forging or a composite layup is fit to fly, sail or fire — where an NDT Inspector certified on paper but never calibrated on a real reference standard accepts a tank dome with a lack-of-fusion indication, and the defect is found at proof test or not at all.

Step 01

Talk to our team

30-minute call. Align on methods and levels needed (UT, PAUT, PT, MT, RT and digital radiography, ET, CT), certification basis (NAS 410, SNT-TC-1A, CP-189, employer written practice), materials and product forms (aluminum-lithium and Inconel welds, titanium forgings, composites, castings, HY-80 and HSLA ship steel), customer and NADCAP requirements, shift pattern, ITAR status, and start date.

Step 02

Review hand-selected talent

Within 2 weeks we introduce 3–5 NDT Inspectors with verified certification records and inspection history on comparable hardware — not general-industry technicians restyled. References from Level IIIs, quality managers and customer source inspectors included.

Step 03

Hire with confidence

Every placement carries a replacement guarantee. If the hire fails within the warranty window, we run a no-fee replacement search.

Why iRecruit.co for NDT Inspector Hires

What makes our NDT Inspector shortlist different

An NDT Inspector at a launch, aerospace or shipyard manufacturer is judged by escapes, not throughput. Verified certification history, real reference-standard and procedure discipline, and audit exposure separate an inspector who catches the indication from one who signs the traveler.

01

Certification records verified, not stated

Every NDT Inspector has certification levels, methods, training hours, exam scores, vision-exam dates and recertification history confirmed against NAS 410, SNT-TC-1A or CP-189 records — and we confirm the employer written practice they were certified under with the Level III who signed it, not the resume line.

02

Flight- and mission-hardware fluency

Friction-stir and TIG welds on aluminum-lithium tanks, titanium and Inconel forgings, composite overwrapped pressure vessels, cast housings, HY-80 hull plate and submarine piping, additively manufactured propulsion parts — inspected to AMS 2630, AMS 2644, ASTM E1417, ASTM E1444, AWS D17.1 and D1.1 acceptance criteria, NASA-STD-5009 and NAVSEA T9074. Matched to your hardware, not a generic inspector.

03

Procedure, Level III and audit discipline

Verified authorship of technique sheets and NDT procedures, reference-standard and calibration-block control, Level III oversight of Level I and II staff, and preparation for NADCAP AC7114, AS9100 and customer source audits — with audit findings and closure histories checked against the quality manager who owned them.

Vetting Criteria

What we verify on every NDT Inspector candidate

NDT Inspector hires live and die on certification records that hold up, indications that get called, and audits that close clean. Below is what every candidate has documented before you meet them:

Certification records and written practice

Level, method, training hours, general, specific and practical exam results, near-vision and color-perception exam dates and recertification history confirmed against NAS 410, SNT-TC-1A or CP-189 and the employer written practice they were certified under.

Hardware and method history

Verified inspection history on comparable product forms and materials — welds, forgings, castings, composites, additive parts — with the specifications applied (AMS 2630, AMS 2644, ASTM E1417, E1444, E1441, AWS D17.1, D1.1, NAVSEA T9074) and escape record reference-checked with the Level III or quality manager.

Procedure and reference-standard discipline

Verified authorship or use of technique sheets and procedures, calibration-block and reference-standard control, equipment calibration records, and process-control checks such as penetrant system performance and film or detector QC.

Level III oversight and audit exposure

For Level III seats: verified written-practice authorship, inspector certification and oversight, and NADCAP AC7114, AS9100, customer source and government audit history with findings and closures confirmed.

Credentials verified

ASNT NDT Level III certificates, NAS 410 and SNT-TC-1A employer certifications by method, ACCP, AWS CWI where held, radiation safety and IRRSP or state radiographer cards for RT, and US-person status where ITAR applies — all checked.

Compensation alignment

Level II, Level III and NDT-lead comp bands aligned before finalists are introduced, including method premiums, shift differentials, overtime expectations, per-diem history, relocation, and clearance or ITAR premiums.

FAQ

Hiring an NDT Inspector: frequently asked questions

How long does it take to hire an NDT Inspector?

Time to shortlist is typically 2 weeks from scoping call. Total time to placement (shortlist through offer acceptance) is typically 3–5 weeks. Level III seats, multi-method certifications with PAUT or CT depth, clearance requirements, or relocation to a remote launch or shipyard site can run a week or two longer.

What does an NDT Inspector cost in 2026?

Most US NDT Level II Inspectors at aerospace, launch, shipyard and defense manufacturers land between $65K and $95K base depending on methods held, metro and shift, with multi-method and PAUT or CT specialists at the top of that band. NDT Level IIIs typically run $110K–$150K, with NDT managers responsible for a NADCAP-accredited lab above that. Overtime and shift differentials add materially at 24/7 plants and shipyards. These are market bands; we confirm live market bands during scoping. See our quality engineer salary guide for the adjacent engineering tier.

Do you place NDT Inspectors on direct hire only, or contract as well?

This page covers direct-hire NDT Inspectors, technicians and Level IIIs who join your quality organization. Contract and per-diem NDT staffing for surge inspection, outages and turnaround work is a separate track with different terms; tell us on the scoping call if that is what you need and we will route it correctly.

How is an NDT Inspector different from a Quality Engineer?

An NDT Inspector examines the hardware and calls the indication against the acceptance criteria. A Quality Engineer owns the nonconformance, MRB disposition, root cause and corrective action that follow, plus the inspection planning that decides what gets inspected. The two share the technique sheet and the NCR.

How is an NDT Level III different from a Quality Manager?

The NDT Level III owns the written practice, procedures, certification of Level I and II staff, and the technical answer when an indication is disputed. A Quality Manager runs the whole quality system — AS9100, NADCAP across all special processes, customer and supplier quality — and the Level III usually reports to that seat. At smaller plants one person may carry both.

Do you require NAS 410 or ASNT certification?

It depends on your customer flow-down. Aerospace and launch primes generally require NAS 410 certification under an employer written practice; shipyards and general industry often work under SNT-TC-1A or NAVSEA requirements; Level III seats usually call for the ASNT NDT Level III certificate. Certifications are employer-based, so a strong Level II from another shop will need to be recertified under your practice. We confirm the requirement during scoping and verify all certification records directly.

Do you offer a placement guarantee?

Yes. Every NDT Inspector placement carries a replacement guarantee. Guarantee terms are confirmed in writing at engagement start.

Can you build a full NDT department?

Yes. Multi-hire builds (a Level III plus Level II inspectors across UT, PT, RT and CT for a new launch-vehicle factory or an additive propulsion cell, or a shipyard NDT crew ahead of a hull-block ramp) route through embedded recruiting or RPO. Adjacent quality seats — Manufacturing Engineers, Fabrication Managers and Tooling Engineers — can be scoped in the same engagement.
