Hire Test Technicians

Hire Test Technicians on direct hire or contract for aerospace, defense, drone and space hardware — executing acceptance test procedures step for step, building functional and environmental test setups, running DAQ and test-stand instrumentation, troubleshooting failures to the component, logging data the customer will audit, and holding test-cell safety on 1st, 2nd, 3rd or weekend shifts. Procedure discipline and troubleshooting depth verified by reference, not just bench time.

How It Works

Hire Test Technicians in 3 steps

A structured process for the hire who proves the hardware works — where a technician who deviates from the ATP without a redline, mis-scales a DAQ channel, or opens a pressurized cell before the vent is confirmed means an invalid acceptance record, a unit shipped on bad data, and a safety event the whole program answers for.

Step 01

Talk to our team

30-minute call. Align on the article under test and test type (functional, environmental, propulsion, RF, flight-line), ATP and test-procedure system, DAQ and control tooling (NI, LabVIEW, TestStand, DEWESoft or comparable), test-cell hazards and permits, shift pattern, ITAR and clearance requirements, direct-hire or contract, and start date.

Step 02

Review hand-selected talent

Within 2 weeks we introduce 3–5 Test Technicians with verified ATP execution and troubleshooting history on comparable aerospace, defense or space hardware — not production assemblers relabeled and not bench-only repair hands. References from test engineers and test-floor leads included.

Step 03

Hire with confidence

Every placement carries a replacement guarantee. If the hire fails within the warranty window, we run a no-fee replacement search. Contract and temp-to-hire engagements carry their own written terms.

Why iRecruit.co for Test Technician Hires

What makes our Test Technician shortlist different

Test Technicians decide whether an acceptance record is evidence or paperwork. Procedure discipline, instrumentation competence and honest failure reporting separate a technician a test engineer can hand a stand to from one who has to be watched.

01

ATP execution verified with the test engineer

Every Test Technician has reference-verified acceptance-test history — step-for-step execution, redline and deviation discipline, as-run data packages, and test readiness reviews they actually supported. We confirm procedure adherence and escape history with the test engineer who owned the ATP, not the resume.

02

Setup, DAQ and troubleshooting depth

Fixture and harness build-up, thermocouple, strain gauge, pressure transducer and accelerometer installation, DAQ channel configuration and calibration checks, thermal chamber and vibration table operation, pressure and leak test setups, and fault isolation to the component with a DMM, oscilloscope or network analyzer. Matched to your article and test type, not a generic electronics tech.

03

Test-cell safety and shift reliability

Reference-verified LOTO, permit-to-work and cell-entry discipline, high-pressure gas and cryogenic handling, HV and RF exposure controls, ESD and FOD practice, and dependable attendance on 2nd, 3rd, compressed or weekend test shifts that keep the schedule moving.

Test Technician Specializations

Match the Test Technician specialty to your article and test cell

“Test Technician” covers everything from a LabVIEW functional-test station operator to a hot-fire cell technician working cryogenics, and the right hire depends on the article, the test type and the hazards in the room. Below are the specializations we recruit for:

What we verify on every Test Technician candidate

Test Technician hires live and die on procedure discipline, instrumentation competence and honest failure reporting. Below is what every candidate has documented before you meet them:

ATP execution history

Reference-verified step-for-step acceptance testing on aerospace, defense or space hardware, with redline and deviation practice confirmed by the test engineer who owned the procedure.

Test setup and DAQ competence

Verified fixture and harness build-up, sensor installation, DAQ channel configuration and calibration checks in NI, LabVIEW, TestStand, DEWESoft or comparable systems.

Troubleshooting to the component

Verified fault isolation with DMM, oscilloscope, network analyzer or leak detector, and failure reports a quality engineer can act on rather than a retest that hides the cause.

Test-cell safety practice

Reference-verified LOTO, permit-to-work, cell-entry and abort discipline, plus high-pressure gas, cryogenic, HV or RF hazard controls where the cell requires them.

Credentials verified

IPC-A-610 or J-STD-001 where claimed, ESD S20.20 training, OSHA 10/30, ITAR U.S.-person eligibility and any clearance status — all checked.

Compensation alignment

Hourly rates, shift differentials, contract versus direct-hire expectations and lead-technician bands aligned before finalists are introduced.

FAQ

Hiring a Test Technician: frequently asked questions

How long does it take to hire a Test Technician?

Time to shortlist is typically 2 weeks from scoping call. Contract seats often fill faster because technicians rolling off a completed test campaign can start on short notice. Direct-hire placements typically run 3–4 weeks from shortlist to start, including notice periods.

What does a Test Technician cost in 2026?

Most US Test Technicians on aerospace, defense and space hardware land between $25 and $40 per hour ($52K–$83K annualized) depending on metro, test complexity and clearance. Propulsion, environmental and lead test technicians typically run $38–$50 per hour, with shift differentials of 8–15% for 2nd, 3rd and weekend coverage. Those are market bands — we confirm live market bands during scoping.

Do you do contract or temp-to-hire?

Yes. Test Technicians are available on direct hire, contract and temp-to-hire. Contract and temp-to-hire run under our Recruiting Support model — same verification and reference checks, and you convert when the campaign proves the fit. Ask us for the markup structure in writing; contract and temp-to-hire options are available — ask on the call.

How is a Test Technician different from a Test Engineer?

The Test Engineer writes the ATP, designs the test stand and owns the data analysis and disposition. The Test Technician builds the setup, executes the procedure, runs the DAQ and troubleshoots the failures on the floor. Strong technicians redline procedures and feed the engineer; they do not replace one. We scope by who signs the test report.

Should I hire a Test Technician or an Electronics Technician?

If the seat is defined by executing test procedures and operating a stand, it is a Test Technician. If it is defined by board-level rework, soldering and bench repair, it is an Electronics Technician. Many defense-electronics lines want both skills in one hire; we can scope that, and we will tell you when the combination narrows the pool.

Do you require IPC, LabVIEW or other certifications?

No. IPC-A-610, J-STD-001 and NI certifications are verified when claimed and weighted where your quality system depends on them, but reference-verified ATP discipline and troubleshooting depth outweigh a certificate. Where the article requires it, we screen for ITAR U.S.-person eligibility and clearance status before introduction.

Do you offer a placement guarantee?

Yes. Every Test Technician direct-hire placement carries a replacement guarantee, and contract engagements carry a replacement provision for a technician who does not work out. Terms are confirmed in writing at engagement start.

Can you staff an entire test floor or a new test cell?

Yes. Multi-hire builds — a 3-shift test crew, a new environmental lab, technicians plus NDT Technicians and Quality Engineers — route through embedded recruiting or RPO. We never promise headcount capacity before scoping; we agree the ramp plan and hiring cadence on the call.
