ECOnnect Energy has signed an agreement to deliver a floating LNG import terminal to the Bahamas under a deal with New Providence Gas Ltd (NPG), a joint venture between Shell Bahamas Power Company Inc. and Sun Oil Holdings Ltd, a subsidiary of Focol Holdings Ltd.
The company said the terminal will support LNG imports to New Providence once operations begin from the end of 2026. The project is intended to help the country shift away from oil and diesel toward what the source described as a cleaner and more affordable energy source.

For the Bahamas, electricity generation has relied heavily on imported diesel and fuel oil, leaving energy costs closely linked to global oil prices, according to the source. That has contributed to high and volatile power prices for households and businesses.
The terminal to be supplied is an IQuayTM C-Class floating LNG import system. ECOnnect Energy said the platform is designed to connect LNG carriers directly to onshore storage, avoiding the need for fixed jetties and extensive coastal construction associated with conventional LNG import terminals.
According to the source, that floating offshore transfer approach reduces marine construction work, limits disturbance to coastal environments, and can speed deployment in sensitive island settings. The system is also designed to operate with a minimal on-site footprint and to be adapted over time as energy needs change.
The unit, named La Santa Maria, is scheduled to depart Norway this autumn, with first LNG deliveries expected during the coming winter season.
ECOnnect Energy described the agreement as its second major contract signing of 2026.
